Academics

At Freedom Intermediate, we guide our 5th and 6th graders through a pivotal time in their academic journey — helping them gain confidence, deepen understanding, and prepare for the rigor of middle school. Our curriculum aligns with Franklin Special District’s instructional goals and Tennessee Academic Standards, while providing students opportunities for challenge, growth, and enrichment.
Our instructional approach is student-centered and differentiated: we scaffold learning for those who need support and accelerate content for those ready to move ahead. In core content areas — English, math, science, social studies — students engage with meaningful, hands-on work, inquiry, and collaborative projects. We also integrate technology and varied instructional strategies to make learning relevant, engaging, and rigorous.
Beyond content mastery, we emphasize skills that will serve students now and in the future: critical thinking, self-advocacy, organization, and effective communication. Academic support services, small-group intervention, and enrichment opportunities are embedded into our design to ensure that every learner is challenged and supported.
At Freedom, academics are more than grades — they’re about nurturing curiosity, building resilience, and fostering the intellectual habits students will carry forward into middle school and beyond.
