The State Board is charged in state law with adopting academic standards for Tennessee every six years. Standards are the grade- or course-level expectations for what students should know and be able to do.
The timeline for math standards review is now underway. It benefits our state when all students learn and progress each year to become knowledgeable thinkers, good citizens, and valuable members of our community. Academic standards are an important part of that mission. The proposed standards will go before the State Board for final approval in late 2020 and be implemented in schools for the 2022-23 school year. As part of the review process, the public is given the opportunity to submit feedback on the current Tennessee academic standards, which will be taken into consideration by the review teams. The public review survey will be accessible beginning Tuesday, November 12, 2019, until Friday, December 6, 2019.
